Gowanus Watermark Walk — July 10, 2021

On July 10 as part of New York City’s City of Water Day, I was lucky to co-lead a “Watermark Walk” around the bottom of the Gowanus watershed. On the two-hour tour, 15 of us walked along the extent of Hurricane Sandy’s flooding in one of the city’s mosty heavily polluted neighborhoods. We discussed the neighborhood’s natural history, pollution, water management system, present and future flood risk, and proposed rezoning. More info here. Many thanks to the Gowanus Dredgers, Waterfront Alliance, and the NY-NJ Harbor Estuary Program for supporting the event.
